Dr Gregor Harvie, co-founder of Designing Buildings WIki and chair of the Construction Knowledge Task Group, will talk about the importance of knowledge, and how it links to error reduction.
[edit] Construction knowledge – the missing piece from the digitisation of the industry.
It is vital that we start thinking about industry knowledge in the same way that we think about project data and information if we are to reduce errors and increase productivity.
Attendees will learn about the importance of knowledge and how it underpins the competence, compliance and productivity of the construction industry. There will be an analysis of the differences between data, information and knowledge and research results will be presented explaining the sorts of knowledge that practitioners use and where they find it. The serious problems practitioners have accessing knowledge will be assessed along with the implications this has for the industry.
The work of the Construction Knowledge Task Group will be explained and how it is modernising construction knowledge in the same way that BIM has already modernised construction data and information.
